Low tree, grass and weed levels were detected. Trees identified were olive (Oleaceae), waxberry/bayberry (Morella sp.), eucalyptus (Myrtaceae), Brazilian pepper (Schinus spp.) and hackberry (Celtis sinensis). Weeds were mugwort (Artemisia sp.), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), English plantain (Plantaginaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae) and pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria sp.). Low mould loads were detected.
Johannesburg
Grasses were moderate. In the low tree load the types detected were bush willow (Combretaceae), cypress (Cupressaceae), pine (Pinaceae), mulberry (Moraceae), eucalyptus (Myrtaceae), poplar (Populaceae) and waxberry/bayberry (Morella sp.). The weed types were the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae), ferns (Polypodiaceae), heath (Ericaceae) and spurges (Euphorbia sp.). Moulds were generally low but significant spikes were seen for Alternaria.
Pretoria
Low tree, grass and weed pollen levels were observed. Trees detected included eucalyptus (Myrtaceae), pine (Pinaceae), karee (Rhus/Searsia) and lemon (Citrus sp.). Weeds were the daisy family (Asteraceae), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), ferns (Polypodiaceae), slangbos / renosterbos (Stoebe-type) and spurges (Euphorbia sp.). Moulds were low.
Bloemfontein
Grasses were moderate. Trees were low and only pine (Pinaceae) was detected. Weed levels were similarly low and included the daisy family (Asteraceae) and goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae). Moulds were low.
Kimberley
Grasses were low. Low tree levels included only waxberry/bayberry (Morella sp.). Low weed levels were seen and the types were ragweed (Ambrosia spp.), ferns (Polypodiaceae) and pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria sp.). Moulds were generally low but with spikes for Alternaria.
Durban
Low tree, grass and weed pollen was detected at this site. Trees included eucalyptus (Myrtaceae), mulberry (Moraceae) and cypress (Cupressaceae). Weeds detected were the daisy family (Asteraceae), ragweed (Ambrosia spp.) and ferns (Polypodiaceae). Moulds were high with strong spikes for ascospores and basidiospores.
Gqeberha
Tree, grass and weed loads were low. Trees detected included Australian pine or beefwood (Casuarina), waxberry/bayberry (Morella sp.), olive (Oleaceae) and eucalyptus (Myrtaceae). Weeds detected were reeds (Restionaceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), lilies, (Liliaceae) and protea (Proteaceae). Moulds were low.
