Grasses were low. Trees were moderate due to the contribution of forest elder (Nuxia sp.). This tree is insect pollinated and unlikely to be allergenic. A small spike was seen for gum (Myrtaceae), and other trees included karee (Rhus sp. / Searsia sp.), olive (Oleaceae), birch (Betulaceae) and waxberry (Morella sp.). Weeds were low and the daisy family (Asteraceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae) and heather (Ericaceae) were detected. Moulds were low.
Johannesburg
Grass, tree, weed, and mould levels were low. Tree pollen detected during this sampling period included birch (Betula sp.), gum tree (Myrtaceae), olive (Oleaceae), oak (Quercus sp.), bush willow (Combretaceae), Australian pine (Casuarina sp.), mulberry (Moraceae) and karee (Rhus sp. / Searsia sp.). Weed pollen present were the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), the daisy family (Asteraceae), slangbos (Stoebe-type), spurges (Euphorbia sp.) and ericas (Ericaceae).
Pretoria
Grasses were low. The only tree pollen detected was gum (Myrtcaeae) in low levels. Low weed concentrations included hopbush (Dodonaeae sp.), the daisy family (Asteraceae) and the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae). Moulds were low.
Bloemfontein
Grass, tree, weed, and mould counts were low for this sampling period. Karee (Searsia sp. / Rhus sp.) was the only tree pollen detected. Weed pollen included the daisy family (Asteraceae) and goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae).
Kimberley
Grasses were low on all but one day when a moderate concentration was recorded, but the overall level was low. No tree pollen was detected. Very low weed levels included the daisy family (Asteraceae) and the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae). Moulds were low.
Durban
Grasses were moderate. Tree levels were low, and the pollen types detected were karee (Rhus sp.), gum tree (Myrtaceae), birch (Betulaceae), the star-apple family (Sapotaceae), forest elder (Nuxia sp.), mulberry (Moraceae) and bayberry or waxberry (Morella sp.). Low weed levels included the daisy family (Asteraceae), ferns (Polypodiaceae) and English plantain (Plantaginaceae). Moulds were low.
Gqeberha
Grass, tree, weed, and mould counts were low during this sampling period. The tree pollen detected was olive (Oleaceae), Australian pine (Casuarina sp.), waxberry (Morella sp.) and the cashew or sumac family (Anacardiaceae). Weed pollen included the amaranth family (Amaranthaceae), slangbos (Stoebe-type), proteas (Proteaceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae) and sedges (Cyperaceae).
