Grass, tree and weed counts were low. Tree pollen included gum (Myrtaceae), karee (Rhus sp. / Searsia sp.), cypress (Cupressaceae), Australian pine (Casuarina sp.), waxberry (Morella sp.), mulberry (Moraceae) and olive (Oleaceae). The weed pollen detected were the daisy family (Asteraceae), ice plants (Aizoaceae) and nettles (Urticaceae). Mould levels were also low.
Johannesburg
Grass and weed pollen counts were low, whereas tree pollen levels were moderate. The tree pollen found in this sampling period include acacia (Acacia sp.), birch (Betula sp.), Australian pine (Casuarina sp.), mulberry (Moraceae), gum tree (Myrtaceae), the plums (Prunus sp.), pine (Pinus sp.), willow (Salix sp.), yellowwood (Podocarpus sp.), karee (Searsia sp. / Rhus sp.), plane (Platanus sp.) and poplar (Populus sp.), with high levels of cypress (Cupressaceae) detected. Weed pollen included the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), the daisy family (Asteraceae), pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria sp.), spurges (Euphorbia sp.) and ericas (Ericaceae). Moulds were low.
Pretoria
The tree, grass and weed levels were low. Tree pollen detected included cypress (Cupressaceae), mulberry (Moraceae) and yellowwood (Podocarpaceae). Weeds included hop-bush (Dodonaea sp.) and the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae). Moulds were extremely low.
Bloemfontein
All pollen and mould levels were low. Karee (Rhus sp. / Searsia sp.) was the only tree pollen detected and the daisy family (Asteraceae) was the only weed pollen present.
Kimberley
Grass, tree, weed and mould counts were low at this site. Tree pollen included karee (Searsia sp. / Rhus sp.), gum (Myrtaceae) and cypress (Cupressaceae). The weed pollen detected were knotweed (Polygonaceae) and nettles (Urticaceae).
Durban
Tree, grass and weed levels were low, but tree pollen was seen to increase slightly. Trees included cypress (Cupressaceae), pine (Pinaceae), yellowwood (Podocarpaceae), karee (Searsia sp. / Rhus sp.), poplar (Populaceae) and mulberry (Moraceae). Weeds included only the daisy family (Asteraceae). Mould counts were low.
Gqeberha
Grasses, trees and weed levels were low at this site. Tree pollen detected included the sumac family (Anacardiaceae), gum (Myrtaceae), Australian pine (Casuarina sp.), pine (Pinaceae), waxberry (Morella sp.) and cypress (Cupressaceae). Weeds included mugwort (Artemisia sp.), the daisy family (Asteraceae), erica or heather (Ericaceae) and protea (Proteaceae). Moulds were low.
