Cape Town
Pollen was found in low concentrations at this site. Trees included sumac (Anacardiaceae), Australian pine (Casuarina), gum (Myrtaceae), cypress (Cupressaceae) and yellowwood (Podocarpaceae). Weeds were hemp (Cannabaceae), nettle (Urticaceae), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae) and bulrush (Typhaceae). Moulds were low.
Johannesburg
Very little pollen was found at his sampling site. Trees were beech (Fagus) and weeds were spurges (Euphorbiaceae). Moulds were low.
Pretoria
Pollen concentrations are usually low at this time of the year. Trees might be beech (Fagus), birch (Betula), stinkwood (Celtis), cypress (Cupressaceae), gum (Myrtaceae), waxberry (Morella), oak (Fagus) and bushwillow (Combretaceae). Weeds could be sorrel (Rumex), hopbush (Dodonaeae), slangbos (Dodonaeae), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae) and the daisy family (Asteraceae). Moulds would be low. 6-year means are shown.
Bloemfontein
Pollen concentrations were uniformly low at this site. Trees were false olive (Buddleia), bushwillow (Combretaceae), olive (Oleaceae), oak (Quercus), karee (Searsia). gum (Myrtaceae) and poplar (Populaceae). Weeds were the daisy family (Asteraceae), pigmyweeds (Crassulaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae) and lily (Liliaceae). Fern spores (Polypodiaceae) were present and moulds were low.
Kimberley
Little pollen was trapped during this sampling period. Trees were bushwillow (Combretaceae) and weeds were mugwort (Artemisia). Moulds were low.
Durban
Tree, grass and weed pollen concentrations were low at this sampling site. Trees were monkey puzzle (Auracariaceae) palm (Arecaceae), birch (Betula), Australian pine (Casuarina), bushwillow (Combretaceae), cypress (Cupressaceae), pine (Pinaceae), oak (Quercus), poplar (Populaceae) and oak (Quercus). Weeds were mugwort (Artemesia), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae), lily (Liliaceae), plantain (Plantaginaceae), bulrush (Typhaceae) and nettles (Urticaceae). Moulds were generally low but small spikes were seen for the allergenic mould, Cladosporium.
Gqeberha
Extremely low pollen concentrations were detected at this sampling site. Trees were cedar Cedrus) and gum (Myrtaceae) and weeds were coffee bush (Bruniaceae). Moulds were low.
George
Extremely low pollen concentrations have been detected at this time of the year. Trees might be bushwillow (Combretaceae), pine (Pinaceae), forest elder (Nuxia), birch (Betula) and waxberry (Morella), Weeds could be spurges (Euphorbiaceae) and moulds would be low. 2-year means are shown.
