Cape Town Tree pollen concentrations decreased somewhat but the overall count remained high. Grasses, weeds and fungal spore levels were low. A greater variety of pollen types is appearing in the air Weeds: English plantain, erica, rumex and Myrica and trees: cypress, oak, olive, rhus and gum. Johannesburg Plane continues to be the major contributer […]

10 June 2019

All pollen levels in the categories: trees, grasses and weeds were very low during this sampling week of rain interspersed with warmer temperatures with strong wind. The fungal spore concentrations increased after rain and moderate levels were seen for ascospores.

17 June 2019

Fungal spores reached very low levels during this sampling period as very low temperatures and rain inhibited their presence in the atmosphere. Pollen concentrations were also low, but tree pollen was present on sunny days as cypress, gum and elm continue to flower.

19 August 2019

Pollen counts are up and running In Cape Town, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and Durban and strong differences have emerged between the four regions. High tree pollen counts Tree pollen counts are high in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Cypress tree is the dominant pollen in Cape Town while Plane tree pollen is the most abundant pollen in […]

12 August 2019

The fungal spore load increased slightly but remained low throughout this sampling week. Tree pollen concentrations remained high owing to the contribution of cypress pollen. Pine, gum and poplar tree pollen was seen in low numbers. Grass and weed levels were very low.

24 June 2019

Extremely low fungal spore loads and pollen levels were seen throughout this sampling week of low temperatures and heavy rain at times.

1 July 2019

Tree, weed and grass pollen levels were extremely low during this sampling week of copious rain and low temperatures. Fungal spore loads were also low, but increased over the previous week as ascospores and Cladosporium concentrations showed small but insignificant spikes during sunny periods.

8 July 2019

The fungal spore load increased to moderate levels during this sampling period as ascospores reached moderate level on sunny days, following rain. Small but insignificant spikes were seen for basidiospores and Cladosporium. Pollen in the air was extremely scarce but the first Betula (birch tree) grain was seen.

15 July 2019

Fungal spore levels returned to low levels during this sampling week of rain, mist and low temperatures. Very low pollen levels were seen throughout the week, but occasional grains of tree pollen appeared occasionally.
