Significant grass concentrations continue at the inland site. Trees are uniformly low, Weeds are low, but varied and ragweed was detected in Durban.
Cape Town
Grass, tree and weed concentrations are generally low. Trees included pine (Pinaceae), yellowwood (Podocarpaceae) and gum (Myrtaceae). weeds were goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), erica (Ericaceaea) and English plantain (Plantaginaceae). Moulds were low. 5-year means are shown.
Johannesburg Central
Grasses were moderate. Low tree concentrations included birch (Betulus), white stinkwood (Celtis), beech (Fagus, gum (Myrtaceae), olive (Oleaceae) and karee (Rhus/Searsia). Weeds were pigweed (Amaranthaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae), the daisy family (Asteraceae), plantain (Plantaginaceae), plantain (Plantaginaceae), ferns (Polypodiaceae), maize (Zea mays) and protea (Proteaceae). Moulds were low.
Johannesburg South
Grasses were moderate. Low tree concentrations included birch (Betulus) and gum (Myrtaceae). Weeds were low levels of pigweed (Amaranthaceae), the daisy family (Asteraceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae) and sedges (Cyperaceae). Moulds were low, but small peaks were consistently seen for the allergenic mould, Cladosporium.
Pretoria
At this time of the year, pollen concentrations are low and moulds are moderate. Trees might include hackberry (Celtis), cypress (Cupressaceae), and mulberry (Moraceae). Moulds are generally moderate. 5-year means are shown.
Bloemfontein
Grasses are usually high at this site in late summer. Low tree pollen typically include acacia (Acacia spp.), false olive (Buddleja), olive (Oleaceae), elm (Ulmaceae) poplar (Populaceae), mulberry (Moraceae) and karee (Rhus/Searsia spp.). Low weeds were mugwort (Artemisia), plantain (Plantaginaceae), the daisy family (Asteraceae) and erica (Ericaceae). Moulds are usually low. 5-year means are shown.
Kimberley
The pollen strip did not reach the lab in time so last week’s results are shown. Grasses were moderate. Low trees included karee (Rhus/Searsia). Low weeds were the daisy family (Asteraceae), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), nettles (Urticaceae) and protea (Proteaceae). Moulds were low during this dry period.
Durban
Tree, grass and weed pollen loads were slight at this site. Tree pollen included birch (Betulus) and gum (Myrtaceae). Weeds were ragweed (Ambrosia), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), knotweed (Persicaria), ferns (Polypodiaceae), plantain (Plantaginaceae and, sedges (Cyperaceae). Moulds were low.
Gqeberha
No findings were sent.
George
The spore trap is malfunctioning so the findings from the same time period in February 2024 are shown. Tree, grass and weed concentrations were insignificant, Trees detected were elm (Ulmaceae). Weeds were ferns (Polypodiaceae), plantain (Plantaginaceae), citrus/buchu (Rutaceae) and erica (Ericaceae). Moulds were insignificant, but small peaks for Epicococcum are noted.
