Summary
Pollen is low at all sites but grasses are moderate in Gqeberha. Moulds showed small peaks for Cladosporium in Pretoria, which is now operating again.
Cape Town
Low pollen counts were seen for all three categories at this site. Trees were cypress (Cupressaceae) and weeds were goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae).
Johannesburg
Please see Johannesburg South. This pollen strip could not be read in time.
Johannesburg South: Pollen and moulds remain low. The only tree detected was gum (Myrtaceae). Weeds were the daisy family (Asteraceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae) and lily (Liliaceae). Moulds were low.
Pretoria
Pollen was generally low. Trees were birch (Bdetulaceae), gum (Myrtcaceae) and poplar (Populaceae). Weeds were mugwort (Artemisia),, goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), ferns (Polypodiaceae) and nettles (Urticacae). Moulds were moderate with peaks for the allergenic fungal spore Cladosporium).
Bloemfontein
Grass concentrations remain low. Trees are lo but increased variation is seen and include birch (Betulaceae), bushwillow (Combretaceae), coral (Erythrina), gaurri (Euclea) and red milkwood (Mimusops). No weed pollen was detected and moulds were low.
Kimberley
The courier did not deliver the strip to the laboratory in time for processing but report will be updated once the analysis is completed.
Durban:
Low tree, grass and weed concentrations were seen. Trees were mulberry (Moraceae) and cypress (Cupressaceae) and weeds were goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae) and the daisy family (Asteraceae). Moulds were low.
Gqeberha
Tree, grass and weed pollen was low. Trees detected included acacia (Acacia-type) and waxberry (Morella). Weeds were pigweed (Amaranthaceae), katstert (Anthospermum) and lily (Liliaceae). Moulds were low.
George
Pollen concentrations in all three categories was low. Trees included waxberry (Morella) and pine (Pinaceae). No weed pollen was detected and moulds were low.
