Grasses, trees, weeds and mould levels were low. Tree pollen included cypress (Cupressaceae), gum tree (Myrtaceae), forest elder (Nuxia sp.) and karee (Rhus sp. / Searsia sp.). The weed pollen detected were the daisy family (Asteraceae), ericas (Ericaceae), English plantain (Plantago sp.), knotweeds (Polygonaceae) and nettles (Urticaceae).
Johannesburg
Grasses, trees, weeds and moulds were low. The tree pollen detected were mulberry (Moraceae), gum (Myrtaceae), karee (Rhus sp. / Searsia sp.) and plane (Platanus sp.). Weed pollen included the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), the daisy family (Asteraceae), slangbos (Stoebe-type), ericas (Ericaeae), proteas (Proteaceae) and mallows (Malvaceae).
Pretoria
Tree, grass and weed pollen concentrations were all low at this site. Trees detected were gum (Myrtaceae) and hopbush (Dodonaea sp.). In the category of weeds, only slangbos (Stoebe-type) was seen. Moulds were very low.
Bloemfontein
Grass, tree, weed and mould levels were low. Karee (Searsia sp. / Rhus sp.) was the only tree pollen detected. Weed pollen included the daisy family (Asteraceae), ice plants (Aizoaceae) and ericas (Ericaceae).
Kimberley
Grass, tree, weed and mould counts were low at this site. Tree pollen included the cashew family or sumac family (Anacardiaceae) and cypress (Cupressaceae). The weed pollen detected were the daisy family (Asteraceae), knotweeds (Polygonaceae) and nettles (Urticaceae).
Durban
Grasses, trees and weeds were low. No tree pollen was detected, and the weeds identified were goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), ferns (Polypodiaceae), the knotweed family (Polygonaceae) and nettle (Urticaceae). Moulds were low.
Gqeberha
Grass, tree, weed and mould levels were low during this sampling period. Tree pollen included the cashew or sumac family (Anacardiaceae), gum tree (Myrtaceae) and cedar (Pinaceae). Weed pollen detected were katstert (Anthospermum sp.), the daisy family (Asteraceae), mugworts (Artemisia sp.), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae), proteas (Proteaceae) and ericas (Ericaceae).
