Cape Town

Grass, tree and weed pollen levels were low for this sampling period. Tree pollen included cypress (Cupressaceae), waxberry (Morella sp.), forest elder (Nuxia sp.), gum tree (Myrtaceae) and karee (Rhus sp. / Searsia sp.). The weed pollen detected were the daisy family (Asteraceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), ericas (Ericaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae), knotweeds (Polygonaceae) and nettles (Urticaceae). Mould counts were moderate.

Johannesburg

Grass, tree, weed and mould counts were low. Tree pollen included birch (Betulaceae), plane (Platanus sp.) and karee (Rhus sp. / Searsia sp.). Weed pollen detected in this sampling period were the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), the daisy family (Asteraceae), slangbos (Stoebe-type), knotweeds (Polygonaceae), ferns (Polypodiaceae) and ericas (Ericaeae).

Pretoria

Grasses and trees were low. Trees detected included karee (Searsia sp. / Rhus sp.) and gum (Myrtaceae). Weeds were low with a small spike for hopbush (Dodonaea sp.) and low levels for slangbos (Stoebe-type) and the daisy family (Asteraceae). Moulds were low.

Bloemfontein

Grass, tree, weed and mould counts were low for this sampling period. Tree pollen detected were karee (Searsia sp. / Rhus sp.) and acacia (Acacia sp.). Weed pollen included the daisy family (Asteraceae), ice plants (Aizoaceae), mugworts (Artemesia sp.), ericas (Ericaceae) and goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae).

Kimberley

Grasses, trees and weeds were all very low at this site. Tree pollen consisted of elm (Ulmaceae) only, and weeds detected were the daisy family (Asteraceae) and knotweed (Polygonaceae). Fungal spores were very low as no rain was recorded.

Durban

Tree, weed and grass levels were low. Trees detected included mulberry (Moraceae), cypress (Cupressaceae) and gum (Myrtaceae). Weed pollen detected was goosefoot (Chenopodiaceae), the daisy family (Asteraceae), spurges (Euphorbiaceae) and mistletoe (Loranthaceae). Moulds were moderate.

Gqeberha

Grass, tree, weed, and mould counts were low. The only tree pollen detected in this sampling period was gum tree (Myrtaceae). Weed pollen included the daisy family (Asteraceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae) and mugworts (Artemisia sp.).
