Summary

Cape Town

Grasses were low. Low tree concentrations include cypress (Cupressaceae), Australian pine (Casuarina) and pine(Pinaceae). Weeds were mugwort (Artemisia), iris (Iridaceae) and erica (Ericaceae). moulds were low.

Johannesburg

All pollen and mould concentrations were low. Trees were only gum (Myrtaceae). Weeds were the daisy family (Asteraceae), sedges (Cyperaceae), the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae) and lily (Liliaceae). Moulds were low. Last week’s counts are shown here.

Johannesburg South

All pollen and mould concentrations were low at this site. No tree pollen was detected and only daisy (Asteraceae) was found in the weed category.

Pretoria

Grasses were low. Tree concentrations were low but varied and included birch (Betulaceae), bushwillow (Combretaceae), sand olive (Dodonaeae), gum (Myrtaceae), olive (Oleaceae), pine (Pinaceae) and poplar (Populaceae). Weeds were daisy (Asteraceae), sedges (Cyperaceae), erica (Ericacae), ferns (Polypodiaceae) slangbos (Stoebe-type) and nettles (Urticaceae). Moulds were low but with increased concentrations for the allergenic mould Cladosporium. Last week’s findings were used due to courier delays.

Bloemfontein

Grasses were low. The tree concentrations are low, but the trees are already stirring and included birch (Betulaceae), false olive (Buddleja), bushwillow (Combretaceae), karee (Rhus/Searsia) and oak (Quercus). Weeds were ferns (polypodiaceae) and protea (Proteaceae). Moulds were low.

Kimberley

The courier did not deliver the pollen strip. Grasses are likely to be low, together with trees, weeds and mould.

Durban

Grasses were low. Tree concentrations included gum (Myrtaceae), karee (Rhus/Searsia) and ebony (Ebenaceae). Weeds were ragweed (Ambrosia), mugwort (Artemisia) and ferns (Polypodiaceae) Moulds were moderate with large spikes for ascospores after rain.

Gqeberha

Low grasses, trees and weeds were seen. Trees were cypress (Cupressaceae), olive (Oleaceae), waxberry (Morella), and karee (Rhus/searsia). Weeds were pigweed (Amaranthaceae), mugwort (Artemisia), protea (Proteaceae), slangbos (Stoebe-type), erica (Ericaceae) and sedge (Cyperaceae)s. Moulds were low.
